Cambodia fur trade overview
Cambodia has emerged as a key global processing hub in the fur trade, despite having no domestic fur production.
In 2024, it imported $421.4 million in raw furskins—mostly from Denmark—but reported no exports of raw fur. Instead, Cambodia focuses on processing and re-exporting tanned furskins, exporting $415.1 million worth—primarily to China—while importing almost nothing in return.
Its role in fur fashion remains limited, with less than $100,000 in fur apparel exports, mostly to the USA, but this signals a potential emerging market.
These figures suggest that Cambodia is being used as a low-cost manufacturing base within the global fur supply chain, highlighting how international fur trade often relies on outsourcing production to regions with minimal regulation or transparency.
