China fur trade overview
China remains the world’s most dominant player in the global fur trade. In 2024, it imported over USD 41 million in raw furskins—primarily from Finland—but exported almost none, reflecting its role as a major processing hub.
China’s fur industry brought in over USD 721 million in tanned furskins, much of it from Cambodia, and re-exported over USD 148 million, with Vietnam as a key market. Most strikingly, China exported nearly USD 487 million worth of fur clothing, particularly to Russia, while importing far less in return.
These figures highlight China’s global role in fur manufacturing—importing raw materials and turning them into finished products for the international market.
