USA fur trade overview
In 2024, the United States exported over USD 72 million in raw furskins—more than three times its imports—making it one of the world’s biggest suppliers of unprocessed fur, with major shipments going to Finland and other European markets.
However, the country remains heavily reliant on foreign imports for tanned fur and especially for fur fashion, importing over USD 103 million in furskin apparel—mainly from Italy—while exporting just a fraction of that.
These figures reflect a clear trade model: the U.S. exports raw wild fur, but depends on international processing to complete the fur supply chain.
